Styling Tips for Men, How to Dress If You’re Short

Short men have a slight handicap when it comes to fashion. But there are ways to cover or at least create a smokescreen to disguise the disadvantage. One very effective way to look a little taller is to maintain a straight and good posture. Carry yourself a little taller by standing or sitting with head held high and back ramrod straight. Slumping and stooping will not only heighten your short stature it will also make you look a little insecure and less confident. To look slim and tall is a technique that can be mastered. With a good posture, the following tips on how to dress if you’re short will further give you an added impression of height:

• Vertical stripes

Vertical stripes in a clothing item, shirts or pants, will help to lengthen your silhouette. So are patterns such as herringbone, chalk stripe and pinstripe.

• A perfect fit

Choose clothes that fit perfectly. Baggy and loose clothes will make you look squat and emphasize your short stature. Clothes with a perfect fit on a short guy with a good posture are an effective way to mask a short build.

• Dark & Light

Clothes in a darker shade and lighter fabric are a short guy’s best option to give that impression of added height. Black, most specially, has that remarkable effect of making short guys look slimmer and taller. Then again, lighter weight and softer fabrics without being clingy is a better choice than stiff and heavier fabrics that have a tendency to make a body look shorter and bulkier.

• Monochromatic clothes

Donning clothes in one color is one successful way to make a short guy look taller and slimmer. A monochromatic outfit, from belt pants and shoes, gives off a solid uninterrupted vertical line that makes a body look longer.

• Shorter jackets

Wear shorter jackets and pants a little higher on the waist without cuffs to make the legs look longer. Opt for vertical lines that will further add to the illusion. Photo Copyright of PR PHOTOS
