Cologne tips for men
Tips for Men, What to Avoid When Using Cologne
Men’s fragrance has become such an essential element in male grooming that it has become a multi-million industry worldwide. This could be because of all the elements of grooming; fragrance lets you express your individuality through your choice. One of the best compliments you can receive is when a lady tells you “you smell great!“ But wearing fragrance or cologne will not necessarily give you the pleasure of hearing such a compliment. There are times when, instead of drawing people to you because you smell good; you drive them away because you reek.
To avoid such adversity, here are some cologne don’ts for you:
Put on too much
Putting on too much or saturating yourself with cologne is not pleasing, it is offensive to people you pass by or get in contact with. You don’t drench yourself in cologne, all you need is a dab in the inner wrist, behind the ears and at the base of the throat, or what are called pulse points. Since your blood vessels are closer to the surface of your skin in these spots, every time your heart beats, the scent is subtly diffused.
Stick to one scent only
In the hotter months all you need is a light, citrus scent. A stronger more robust scent can be overpowering in the heat. But come fall all the way to winter, change your cologne to a spicier more full-bodied fragrance sine the lighter scent will be lost in the cold temperature
Stockpile
Fragrances or colognes are not collectibles. They are meant to be used, at least within 3 yrs, and then it loses its original fragrance and become rancid. So don’t hoard them, use them. This rule applies to both colognes that are partially used and those that are still unopened and wrapped in plastic or their original wrappings.
The cologne you’re wearing should make people notice you, but in a most positive way. It is a waste of money to buy an expensive bottle of cologne but not get any benefit from it.
Cologne Dos for Men
When a guy passes by wafting a very subtle manly yet fragrant scent, you cannot help but follow his progress with an admiring look. But when a guy reeks of a very strong powerful sweet scent several meters away, the natural tendency of people he passes by is to turn away in embarrassment; for him. So how should a guy choose and wear a scent? For you, here are some cologne dos that might help:
• Do try it on before you buy
The only way to know if cologne and your body chemistry will blend is to try it on.
Don’t be hustled by a pushy sales lady in buying the 1st cologne she proffers to you. Try it on by dabbing a little of it on your skin, usually at the inside of your wrist or behind your ear lobe. Wait for some time to see if you will have any allergic reaction to it, and for the body chemistry to react to the cologne. If the cologne smells as good on your skin as inside its bottle and stays on with a delicate and subtle scent, then buy it.
• Do find out what your skin type is
One of the most important factor in choosing a cologne is your skin type. If your skin is dry, you may have to re-apply your cologne several times during the day to stay appealingly nice smelling. If you have oily skin, one application will be enough since your skin can maintain the scent even all day long.
• Do apply your cologne after a shower
Cologne works best with clean skin. It won’t cover up an unwashed body in fact it could do you more harm in the smell department. Applying a cologne after a hot shower or bath is even better. The warm water temperature will open your pores, and when your pores are open, it can absorb and retain the smell of the cologne better.
